Good Neighbors

The best thing about sharing your office space with other companies is that you can use their competence. The rooms around my room are rented by App-developers, computer game experts, a great sound engineer and film music composer (who is also a killer movie maker who made the fabulous Cloo Collection Movie), and another designer who runs her own brand of 50's and 60's influenced women's wear. Her name and brand name is Emmy and she's the one I harass with questions about everything. She is a real sweetheart though and kindly answers all of my questions.

Emmy har been to a million fashion trade fairs and I have been to none. So, right now I love her for lending me some of her old order forms and price lists, so that I could use them to make my own.

Just so you know, she designs the most amazing fabulous clothes. Go buy them! NOW. www.emmydesign.se

In och köp. NU. www.emmydesign.se

holding my thumbs and wiping my nose

This morning I woke up with a cold. This might be the worst time for me to get sick (I know how a bad cold affects me. Red eyes, red nose, sneezings.. the list can be long.) so on my way to work I dropped by the drugstore and got some herbal stuff to keep the symptoms down.
If you guys have some tips about how to kill a cold, just hit me. I'm desperate.

things I don't know

It's almost a year since I started to really calculate and become familiar to the numbers and rules regarding running my own business. It took a lot of effort to get the system in to my head, but after a while it settled down and I began feeling that I actually was in control.

Now I'm going to my first fashion fair, and it's abroad. There might be a possibility that companies from other countries wants to buy my clothes. Denmark i can handle, but outside europe? How on earth do I write prices and recalculate everything? And how about taxes? What's the rules of exporting, and who on earth can I ask these questions to?

Maybe I'll start with calling the "Skatteverket" on monday.

Painting

Well, I guess spray painting the wooden details of my display dolls wasn't such a great idea. Actually, the paint sticks better to the skin on my fingers than it did on the wooden parts..

The Blog Design

I'm planning to do something about the design of this blog, but my web coding skills are limited. Until I have done something really good looking, we try this layout for a while. Simple, but delicious. Like Cloo. :)

In Swedish / På Svenska:
Enkel men delikat. Som Cloo. :)

Last one of the small Bulldog Scarf

There is only one single piece left of The Bulldog Scarf size 0-2 years, color Dark Grey. ONE! I wonder who is going to be the lucky owner..

As I have announced before, some of the pieces in the collection is running out of order. Our retailers can no longer get their hands on all of the sizes of The Bulldog Scarf, The Badger Suit, The White Mink Dress and The White Mink Shirt. And the number of pieces in stock is reducing every day. We are definitely going to produce more, but it won't be available for buyers before the summer.

The last ones in stock are being marked for YOU, only available in Cloo Collection's web shop (if you can't find them at our retailers). So, if you have a favorite item that you just haven't bought yet - this might be the time.

Cloo Preparing for CIFF

These hectic weeks before going to Copenhagen could have been better. My son got some unknown sickness with a rash all over his face and body, which made us stay home for almost a week. Now it's friday and I'm finally back at the office.
We go to Copenhagen on wednesday next week and there's still so much do do. Like painting (and poisoning my neighbors at the office, sorry guys):

And do you know what this thing is? It's a two meters long Cloo Collection sign, with the letters cut out in hard plastic. It's going to be placed at the wall of my stand at CIFF Kids - It's going to look AMAZING. I hope. (I don't dare to unpack it all, because the letters fall out..)

Next week I'm picking up the look books at the printing house and I'm so excited to see them. It's going to be a little glue-bounded book with pictures and info about the whole collection.

Now, I'm back to spray painting and packing. Love you all, sorry about the absence and hopefully I will get more time to update from now on.

Fashion Fair for Kids in Copenhagen

I might be going crazy planning for my visit at CIFF Kids in Copenhagen in a few weeks. Since I was so late with my application and the organizers won't give me any technical info until I'm officially booked (that was arranged last week - now where's my technical info?!?), I have no clue how my spot is built or how the interior should look like.

It's really critical that I can order pictures, logos and stuff as soon as possible and for that I need to now all measurements or I risk buying things for a lot of money that I can't use.

Blah.

In Swedish / På Svenska:

Blah.

Back in Business!

My god, I'm so glad to be back at the office! But, three weeks vacation (plus one extra day yesterday when I thought I was going to work but got stopped by a phone call from Charles saying that the kids daycare centre was closed, so it was just to jump off the tram and go home again) really made things crazy here. A thousand things to do - makes the blog suffer. Sorry! But I hope everything will cool down soon and then I plan to get going with the reviews of 2011.

Now - some bills to pay and some orders to send! Love /Cloo

In Swedish / På Svenska:
Puss /Cloo

Review #2 - February/March 2011

February came and the work with the business plan was my full priority. I went by boat to visit The Centre of New Businesses (Nyföretagarcentrum), to take part in their free meetings and consultations. If you are thinking about starting your own business, I would strongly recommend you to pay them a visit. They exist in the most swedish cities, and If you don't have one where you live it shouldn't be far away.

Ellen was helping me to do some calculations and I remember that I at this time was spending quite a lot time at my local gym, to get some distance from the home office and clear my head - it was a great but sadly short lived lifestyle. Now a days I'm happy if I manage to visit the gym once a month..

I started to get some samples of cotton labels, and I remember that I felt euphoric - now it all slowly started to feel more real, like there was actually a chance that this dream might come true.

March arrived and I visited a fabric fair in Borås, guided by my great inspirer Patricia, who runs the clothing brand Isela. The fair made me quite dizzy with millions of buttons, labels, zippers and - of course - thousands and thousands of fabric samples. Sadly I couldn't find any fabric producer that accepted quantities less than like a thousand meters. Way to big quantities for me and my plans.

And in March it was also time to hand in the business plan. Nervously going through page by page over and over again..
